Machine Shop Safety
Is training mandatory? If so, when? Yes. Departments that have machine shops, woodworking shops or similar operations must designate a machine shop coordinator and implement a machine shop safety program.
Each person who uses shop equipment must receive training (by the Shop Safety Coordinator or other designee) prior to use on the following topics:
- Shop guidelines such as housekeeping and access,
- Shop hazards and methods of controlling exposure,
- Machine-specific operating guidelines and safety features,
- Use and care of prescribed personal protective equipment.
Available online: Yes - this course offers general information on machine shop safety and requirements. Machine-specific training must be coordinated with the departmental Machine Shop Coordinator.
