Hearing Loss Prevention Introduction

Purpose

To prevent hearing loss from occupational noise exposure for those Virginia Tech employees whose job duties expose them to noise levels regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard 29 CFR 1910.95.

Scope

Hearing Loss Prevention involves all Virginia Tech employees whose job duties expose them to regulated noise levels.

Application

The primary tools of the Hearing Loss Prevention (HLP) include:

• Conducting workplace noise monitoring,
• Consulting on engineering and administrative noise controls,
• Providing annual hearing tests,
• Educating about the potential effects of occupational noise exposures,
• Training on the proper use of hearing protection.
