Hi Folks,
It's not too late to register for the 2004 CUHWC. We've had a great response and are expecting a good group of people. Don't miss out! Registration ends on July 26th. http://www.ehss.vt.edu/HazWasteConf/index.htm

We have had wonderful support from sponsors so we have some great events planned. If you have registered for the conference and plan to attend the Va Tech Tour, please make sure you included it in your registration. There is no charge for the event, but we do need a head count.

There is still plenty of room left on the guest trips. If you're bringing your family or a guest, please have them join us at Smith Mountain Lake, Natural Bridge, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the scenic wonders of Virginia.

Our Keynote Speaker is Michael Ellerbrock. Mike is a professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech and has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the Congressionally-sponsored 2002 USDA/NASULGC National Award for Teaching Excellence for all fields of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Human and Veterinary Sciences. His interactive teaching style is engaging, entertaining, and thought provoking. Mike should be able to spark some dialogue in the group about the economics of environmental stewardship.

The lunchtime speaker on Monday is William "Jack" Davis. He is the author or editor of more than forty books in the fields of Civil War and Southern history, as well as numerous documentary screenplays. He was the on-camera senior consultant for 52 episodes of the Arts & Entertainment Network/History Channel series "Civil War Journal," as well as a number of other productions on commercial and Public Television, as well as for the BBC abroad, and has acted as historical consultant for several television and film productions, including "The Blue and the Gray," "George Washington," and "The Perfect Tribute." He has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in History, and is the only three-time winner of the Jefferson Davis Award given for book-length works in Confederate History. Dr. Davis is the Director of Programs for the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies. Jack is a highly sought out speaker and, whether you are a Civil War history buff or not, we think you will find his talk very entertaining.

Tuesday's lunchtime speakers will be W. Robert Herbert. Bob spent 30 years in municipal government and is now a COTA Fellow with Va Tech. Mr. Herbert develops workshops, short courses and other educational programming for governments and public sector organizations like hospitals, health facilities and public safety groups. He works closely with the EPA to help governments and other entities work to implement Environmental Management Systems. Joining him will be Jim Horne from EPA's Office of Waste Management.

As you can see, we have plenty of opportunities for learning as well as for fun. If you haven't registered yet, please do and join us in Roanoke for a great conference!
